And now, another Fact of Congress
What if they had a rule at your school that was mostly good, but was missing something that would make it even better? Wouldnt you like to change or amend it?
Well, Amendments are an important part of what happens in Congress.
A member proposes a Bill that gets sent to a committee for hearings.
If the committee wants to, they can vote to add amendments to the Bill. This can change the original language in very important ways.
If passed out of Committee, the Bill, with the new amendment, goes to the floor of Congress for action.
The full House or Senate then debates this revised bill, and often considers additional amendments — and sometimes even amendments to amendments!
